The doctors at the Cardiac Centre (The Healing Tree Services) of Shree Krishna Hospital, the teaching hospital of Bhaikaka University, Karamsad, removed the heart blockage with the ROTAPRO TRIPSY technique.
Newer advanced technology in interventional cardiology is a blessing for cardiologists to fight against the monster of calcium for the best outcome in complex, high-risk indicated patients.
The cardiac team of Bhanubhai and Madhuben Patel Cardiac Centre (The Healing Tree Services) of Shree Krishna Hospital, the teaching hospital of Bhaikaka University, Karamsad, gave a new lease of life to an 87-year-old cardiac patient using ROTAPRO TRIPSY.
"The cardiac centre used the RotaPro system (with extra safety features for the patient and user-friendly) successfully first time in Anand and Kheda district to remove the heavy calcifications in the blood vessel considering the age of the patient. The procedure was done along with an intravascular lithotripsy shock balloon (ROTA PRO TRIPSY) and intracoronary 3D imaging IVUS (Intra Vascular Ultrasound) guidance. It involves navigating a catheter fitted with a rotablator — a device to drill calcium inside the heart artery through the site of the blockage. The device rotates at a speed of up to 1,70,000 rotations per minute, gently pulverizing the blockage into tiny particles that can pass safely through the bloodstream. This technique drilled and cracked a 99% critical, heavily calcified lesion in the left anterior descending artery of the left side of the heart, which was the only blood-supplying artery to both the left and right side of the heart muscle in this patient." explained Dr. Kushal Pujara, an interventional cardiologist. A heart team approach, involving cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, and cardiac anesthesiologists, is essential in the management of such patients.
An 87-year-old man from Anand suffered a heart attack, had coronary angiography at another hospital in the city, and was advised for cardiac bypass surgery (CABG) due to critical calcified blockage. He also had impaired kidney function. The patient and family came to Bhanubhai and Madhuben Patel Cardiac Centre at Shree Krishna Hospital to get a second opinion from experts. He refused CABG in view of his advanced age, and it was decided to implant stents with a percutaneous complex coronary procedure under local anesthesia.
If stents are implanted without breaking calcium with this technique, then stents have the tendency to obstruct blood flow again with blockage, said Dr. Sunil Karna, another interventional cardiologist in the hospital.
Dr. Kushal Pujara added that ROTAPRO is a safe and sufficient technique for the endovascular treatment of heavily calcified coronary artery lesions. The hospital houses a state-of-the-art, high-tech Philips cath lab, and the heart team is available round the clock, which helps in performing such complex procedures successfully on patients.

Shree Krishna Hospital organized a “Free Dental Check-up Camp” on the occasion of World Oral Health Day at the hospital’s premises on 20th March 2023. The camp was organized to create awareness related to the issues of oral health and the importance of oral hygiene.
The camp was conducted successfully by Dr. Kamal D Hotchandani (Head, Department of Dentistry) and other Dental Surgeons Dr. Ushma Prajapati, Dr. Sindhu Dodamani, Dr. Pinal Solanki, Dr. Khyati Surt who provided free consultation and screening to more than 88 patients. Shree Krishna Hospital at Karamsad in Anand district has launched a unique scheme for patients with a view to providing comprehensive and personalized health care with commitment and compassion at an affordable cost. The hospital will entail patients a saving of Rs 500 daily on hospitalization charges in the general ward.
Under this scheme, in the general ward, there will be no charges for anything not connected with treatment. There will be no registration, doctor's consultation, or administrative and nursing charges. Bed and diet will be provided free. The patient will only have to bear the cost of medicines, investigations, and consumables connected with the treatment. The waving of charges effectively means that the patient has to pay for the services provided based on the orders of the doctors.
"This is being done to provide access to the best of health care at an affordable cost to all. The scheme is applicable to other than cashless and scheme patients," a release issued by the hospital said. "On July 26, our Foundation Day, two schemes for the economically underprivileged -the BPL families and those whose monthly income was less than Rs 10,000—the Jana Arogya scheme and the Arogyasree were introduced and are running successfully," the release further mentioned.
“Khilkhilat Ambulance” is used to drop the Mother and Child at their home after delivery. This facility was first started in Gujarat by former Chief Minister Shree Narendra Modi to reduce the mother and child mortality rate. Thousands of people come to Tertiary Care Level Shree Krishna Hospital, Karamsad, and this NABH-accredited hospital gives them the best treatment. The services will be run jointly by the Departments of Anaesthesia, Community Medicine, and Extension Programmes and will be provided at the hospital between 9.30 am and 1.30 pm and home care services in the extension villages between 2.30 and 5 pm.

Good coordination between the current treatment provider and the palliative team, generally comprising a doctor, nurse, social worker, and counselor, will lead to better outcomes.”

Housed in the modern, newly built four-storied, spacious and airy DJS Get well Centre each floor will have two wards. With the installation and commissioning of a new Linear Accelerator, the Manibhai Shivabhai Patel Cancer Centre of the Shree Krishna Hospital, Karamsad, became the only cancer centre in Gujarat to have two such machines in operation. Donated by Tata Trusts, this accelerator is capable of performing advanced techniques of radiation like 3D Conformal Radiotherapy, Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT), Volumetric Modulated Radiotherapy (VMAT), and Electron beam treatment.
A Computer Controlled linear accelerator customizes high-energy x-rays or electrons to conform to a tumor’s shape and destroys cancer cells while sparing surrounding normal tissue. It features several built-in safety measures of record and verification System (MOSAIQ) to ensure that it will not deliver a higher dose / under dose than prescribed and is routinely checked by a medical physicist / Radiation Safety Officer – to ensure it is working properly.
According to Dr. Rushi Panchal, Consultant Radiation Oncologist at the Centre, ‘This accelerator will share the load with the existing Elekta Synergy linear accelerator. As a result, it will help us to provide prompt and uninterrupted radiotherapy treatment to patients at the Centre.
The linear accelerator ensures the accuracy of dose placement without compromising the protection of critical structures. The accuracy of treatment planning with this technology will be of greater use while administering radiation for cancers in moving targets, e.g., cancer of the lungs, liver, etc. In addition to these benefits, this new form of treatment also takes lesser administration time, thereby relieving the patients of apprehensions and anxiety that set in prior to radiation. In short, a single dosage duration of 20 minutes is reduced to only 2-8 minutes per patient depending on the complexity of the treatment plan. It will also help to drop down the waiting period for radiotherapy treatment and enhance the number of patients on the treatment machines.’

A dedicated and experienced team of full-time medical, radiation, and surgical oncologists ensure that all the patients receive treatment with care and compassion. Under this scheme, 450 beds out of 720 beds in the general ward of our hospital have been earmarked for free treatment. Ours is the first private hospital in the state to extend this facility.
In the Aashirwad wards, patients will be entitled to get free treatment without any discrimination. This is being done to provide access to the best health care at an affordable cost to all.
There will be no registration, doctor’s consultation, administrative, nursing, or operation charges. The patient will only have to bear the cost of medicines and consumables connected with the treatment. All can avail of this offer except cashless and other scheme holders. Cardiac and Cancer patients are not covered.
Last year, we introduced two schemes for patients - Jan Aarogya and Aarogyashree, which are running successfully. The Jan Aarogya Yojana has been a boon to families whose monthly income is less than Rs 10,000. Now those under Jan Aarogya will get further benefits: a 10% rebate in medicine and 75% in CT scans and MRIs.

The Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) has donated an ultra-modern ICU ambulance, fitted with the latest life-saving equipment, to Shree Krishna Hospital, Karamsad, for critically ill patients. The ambulance was handed over to the Hospital on Saturday, the Foundation Day of HPCL, by Shri Arvind Govil, Senior Regional Manager, Baroda Retail Region of HPCL at a function held in the premises of the Shree Krishna Hospital, Karamsad.
The ambulance(Tata Winger Medical Van) has been fitted with several emergency facilities like a multipara monitor, portable ventilator, syringe pump, nebulizer, oxygen cylinder, and suction machine. The Ambulance, along with its equipment is totally valued at Rs 15 lakhs and is part of the Corporate Social Responsibility Scheme of HPCL.
The function was attended by Shri Manish Rane, Deputy Manager, Mobile QC lab, Shri Ajay Nair, Sr. Officer, RE&MIS, and Shri Sumit Bhadoriya, Sr. Sales Officer, Anand SA from HPCL and senior personnel from Shree Krishna Hospital. Karamsad-based Shree Krishna Hospital has received the coveted nursing excellence award from National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare (NABH).
The certificate effective from August 1, 2016, is valid until July 31, 2018, subject to continued compliance with NABH requirements.
The hospital has successfully met the standards and measures set by NABH to achieve this recognition. The standards provide a framework for quality of care for patients and quality improvement for nursing services. The standard helps to build a quality culture at all levels and across all the functions of the hospital.
"In our quest towards quality in health care for improved patient outcomes, this is yet another milestone and one that we should all celebrate. This certificate is a reflection of Shree Krishna Hospital's commitment towards facilitating safe, competent, and ethical nursing practice," said Dr. Amrita Patel, chairman of Charutar Arogya Mandal.
The mandatory quality protocols including nursing guidelines, infection control programs for patient safety, and guidelines for the safety of healthcare workers were followed diligently by the hospital to bag this certification.
The hospital, which serves as a teaching hospital for Pramukhswami Medical College, received the accreditation of Central Diagnostic Laboratories in 2008, making it the first medical college in the country to have all its laboratories accredited.

Shree Krishna Hospital, Karamsad, has done it again. After becoming the first teaching hospital in the country to receive the Green OT certificate in 2015, the NABH-accredited Shree Krishna Hospital, has again been conferred the Green Operation Certification for its 12 operating theatres for a period of three years.
The certificate recognizes Shree Krishna Hospital`s compliance with the highest quality and safety parameters for patients and health care workers in operation theaters. The overall Green OT Evaluation Performance Score was 94.83 percent. The elements assessed were Management commitment, Pre-operation activities, Activities during operation, Post Operation activities, and Training and Awareness.
The Green OT accreditation is carried out by Bureau Veritas Certification, a global certification agency along with Abbott India pharmaceutical company. The certificate ensures the emission of carbon dioxide, infrared rays and radiation are within permissible limits. Green connotes cleaner techniques using modern technology and processes with a sensitive approach to the environment.
The 720-bed Shree Krishna Hospital was also conferred the prestigious Green Hospital Award by the Association of Healthcare Providers, India in 2016. Its performance in parameters such as energy and water conservation, optimal use of solar energy, minimum use of plastic products, tobacco-free campus, and conservation of greenery and trees -all contributed to it receiving the Green Hospital award.
