The Department of Biochemistry is involved in the laboratory diagnostic services of the hospital. The laboratory has all the modern facilities like a fully automated Analyzer (for routine, special, and emergency tests), Chemiluminescence equipment (for assay of hormones, tumor markers, and several other special investigations), ABG analyzer, Electrolyte analyzer, Coagulomuter, semi-auto analyzer and all the other paraphernalia required in the laboratory. Hence the PG students get hands-on experience in operating all the modern equipment required in Clinical Biochemistry. The Department also caters to the teaching of MBBS, MD (Biochemistry), Physiotherapy, DMLT, and MSc (MLT) students. PG seminars, lectures, and journal club meetings are regular features of the PG training program of the Department which enable those passing out to pursue a career in lab services, research, teaching, and industry.
The Department of Microbiology has a well-equipped laboratory, which provides necessary back-up to the clinical departments in the diagnosis and management of infectious diseases. It carries out various microbiological investigations viz., Microscopy, Culture & Sensitivity (conventional as well as automated rapid), and Serological tests. It is also a designated Microscopy Centre (DMC) for Tuberculosis as a part of the revised National TB Control Programme as well as a counseling and testing centre for HIV as a part of the National AIDS Control Programme. It has implemented some innovative teaching-learning methods for Microbiology at the UG level such as application-based learning. Several faculty members regularly participate as resource persons in Medical Education Technology workshops organized by the Regional Teachers Training Center. The PG students, as a part of their curricula, are sent for advanced training to other institutes within and outside the State.
The Department of Pathology has well-established laboratory services with separate sections of Clinical Pathology, Blood Banking, Histopathology, and Cytopathology. Each of these laboratories is NABL-accredited. They are equipped with all the required equipment. The departmental museum has over 850 mounted and 50 unmounted specimens.
The Department has peripheral centers for the collection of samples and other services provided include motivational programs for blood donation, health checkups, pap smear examination, and facility of frozen section.
The department is involved in teaching UG, Physiotherapy, DMLT, BSc & MSc (MLT), and PG students. The PG students, as a part of their curricula, are sent for advanced training to other institutes within and outside the State.
